Rapid generation of pigs carrying multiple genetic modifications using porcine EPSCs for testing cell therapies and for organ transplantation

Due to its similarities in organ sizes, physiology and immunology to humans, the pig is now increasingly been used in many branches of medicine. CTSCB aim to use porcine EPSCs to generate pigs that can be explored as organ donors for xenotransplantation. Significant advances have been made using pigs as organ donors in xenotransplantation. CRISPR genome-editing and SCNT make it possible to make genetically modified pigs with key immune rejection genes knocked out and expressing human transgenes.
